Who We Are
History
The dawn of the Lutheran Christian Faith in Papua New Guinea came on July 12 1886 through Johann Flierl when he sailed into the quiet beaches of Simbang, Finschhafen.
Church Leaders
The supreme leader of the Evangelical Lutheran Church is Jesus Christ by whom our faith, sacraments, structures and visions dwell in him. For his name’s sake ELC-PNG was

Church Structure
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea has a governing body made up of SYNOD, THE CHURCH COUNCIL, DISTRICT, CIRCUIT, PARISH AND CONGREGATION
Church District
Each of the 17 ELC-PNG District has an elected ordained pastor of the church as the District President or the District Bishop and an elected lay person as the District Secretary.
Synod
The ELC-PNG National synod is the highest decision making body of the Church. It is much similar as a parliament session of the National government.
What We Do
Evangelism
Evangelism Division is the core ministry under the Ministerial Department of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua new Guinea.
Evangelism Division focuses on administering the implementation of
preaching the gospel through ministries of ELCPNG
Ministerial Services
Ministerial Training Division and Woman Training Division is one of the ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea.
Mainly focuses on training people to serve in the ordained ministries, church
administration or in other theological, evangelistic and spiritual ministries of ELCPNG.
Health Services
We also run the LUTHERAN HEALTH SERVICES, which aim to provide efficient health services to the people of Papua New Guinea. We currently operate 4 hospitals, 28 health centers, 88 aid posts and 14 two-men aid posts.
Development Services
Our LUTHERAN DEVELOPMENT SERVICES division works to help the people and children of Papua New Guinea develop. We focus on three main programs: improving infrastructure, enhancing livelihoods and promoting sustainable
resource management.
Education Services
ELCPNG operates a vast network of schools across the country through its LUTHERAN EDUCATION DIVISION, with a total of 234 institutions including 7 Secondary Schools, 14 High Schools and 212 Elementary Schools.
The organization has recently launched a Lutheran university as a merger of three Lutheran institutions in the country:
Balob Teachers College in Lae, Martin Luther Seminary in Lae and the Madang Lutheran School of Nursing. The university will be guided by the three institutions, with the faculties of education, theology and health and medicine being offered.

Our Facilities
Our main office is located at Ampo along busu road, opposite Balob teachers college. Within the main office we have the office of the Bishops, Departments of Evangelism, Ministerial Training, Education, Assert Management Unit, Church Partnership Program, Overseas affairs office and our Resource Center. We have two other departments which is not located within main office. This departments are, Department of Health and Department of Development Services. The Department of Health is Located at the Top Town 2nd street, at the back of Nambawan Super Building and the Department of Development Services is located at Malahang, opposite Malahang industrial hub.
